Hi, I am Ahmed

Robotics control engineer. I design the low-level control loops that let machines move with precision, speed, and stability.

Ahmed Okasha

I'm a robotics control engineer with 5+ years designing high-bandwidth, real-time control systems for precision electromechanical platforms — the low-level control loops that let a machine move with nanometer precision. My work lives in the layer between physics and software: cascaded control, disturbance rejection, and system identification.

I own and write Control Mind AI — where control theory meets physical intelligence. A newsletter and interactive simulations on the systems that sense, decide, and move: from PID loops to reinforcement learning.

My Story

Illumina headquarters

A dedicated professional with a strong academic and industry background in mechatronics and controls engineering. Ahmed joined Illumina (headquartered in San Diego, CA) in 2020, where he has been architecting and designing precision motion control systems.

Michigan State University

Prior to joining Illumina, Ahmed defended his Ph.D. dissertation in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University, focused on advanced control systems. At MSU, he was a TA at the Controls Lab from 2015–2016, then Lab Instructor and Lead TA from 2016–2017.

During his Ph.D., Ahmed researched optimization and control strategies for CO2 automotive air conditioning with Ford Motor Company, published in the Energy journal — work done with Prof. Norbert Mueller & Prof. Kalyanmoy Deb.

Manuscript: Bi-objective optimization of transcritical CO2 heat pump systems →

In 2020, Ahmed interned at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, working on model-based control for the Delta Robot under the guidance of Dr. Scott Bortoff, published at the ASME Dynamic Systems & Controls Conference.
