Illumina

Ahmed is a dedicated professional with a strong academic and industry background in Mechatronics and Controls Engineering. He joined Illumina (headquartered in San Diego, CA) in 2020 where he has been involoved in architecting and designing precision motion control systems.

Prior to joining Illumina, Ahmed successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University with focus on Advanced Control Systems. At MSU, Ahmed was a TA at the the Controls Lab from 2015 thru 2016, and became the Lab instructor and Lead TA from 2016 thru 2017.

During his Ph.D., Ahmed embarked research with Ford Motor Company, focusing on the development of optimization and control strategies for CO2 automotive air conditioning. The work main reseacrh has been published in the Energy Jounral. A work that was done with Prof. Norbert Mueller & Prof. Kalyanmoy Deb

In 2020, Ahmed completed an internship at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, working on model-based controls for the Delta Robot under the guidance of Dr. Scott Bortoff. A work that was published in ASME Dynamic Systems & Controls Conference.

Before joining MSU, Ahmed was a Research Assistant at the Center for Sound. Vibration & Smart Structures (CVS3), one of largest research centers in Egypt & Middle East. 

Ahmed earned both his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mechatronics Engineering from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt in 2010, and 2014, respectively, where he also worked as a Teaching Assistant tutoring multiple mechatronics subjects to undergraduate students.

Ahmed received multiple awards including the James Dyson Foundation Fellowship and the Acoustical Society of America grant for international students. Ahmed has been Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer from 2015 thru 2020.
